The Area

Casina Gialla is located in an area known with its ancient name of Valle della Cupa, “The dreary valley”, that has retained nothing of the ancient features: now it’s a dense network of country roads, bordered by old farmhouses, countryside villas, noble old fashion residences which enrich the area with their elegance and their agricultural crops and vineyards.

The Cupa was called the “Tivoli Gardens” of Lecce, because the land’s fertility and the proximity to the city made the area the upper class’s most popular and desirable destination.

This area is of great geographical and historical interest and with its architectural exemplars and the surrounding fields is one of the most fascinating areas of Salento. The surrounding countryside characterizes the Cupa’s landscape, whose fertile soil has encouraged the cultivation of vines and the fruit and vegetables production.

Besides that, a long tradition of pottery handicraft still flourishes today.
An area close both to Lecce and to the sea.
